Oodletorial: The Sound and the Hurry!

As an avid Oodle collector, nearly every day I make a trip to the “To Doodles” section of GSN.com where I answer the Question of the Day and the Bonus Trivia Question, partake in whatever the Daily Break has to offer, spin the Wonder Wheel and open up one of three games to play in order to earn some Oodles. If I have a little extra time, I’ll go ahead and play Straws to earn an extra spin.

I don’t know what the statistics are, but I’m venturing a guess that in terms of order of favorites most people are on board with me in how the games rank. The most fun is Horse Play, followed by Basket Case, and finally The Cyclone. (In terms of which one’s you’d think were most fun by look and title, I’d venture to guess people would assume the exact opposite -of course Basket Case gets the middle spot both ways).

I also suspect that in terms of Oodlebility to earn Oodles, the games rank in that same order, with most people earning between 70 and 80 Oodles in Horse Play, maybe 45 to 60 in Basket Case and, if you’re anything like me, 2 in Theย Cyclone. Maybe 6 if I happen to click on a purple Oodle.

Interestingly, they also rank in that same order of which has the best accompanying sound.

I love the sound in Horse Play. I will purposefully run into other horses just to hear that “whinny” sound. Don’t worry – the horses aren’t real and if I were a real horse racer, well… I’d be in a lot better shape for one thing, but I’d also never run into other horses just for the momentary joy I get when hearing the sound the other horse makes.

The circus-like music in Basket Case manages to be both fun and appropriately keep the player alert while attempting to catch the falling jewels.

And the sounds of The Cycloneย put the pressure on to catch those dag-nabbed flying Oodles.ย It definitely adds to the urgency, and the ten-second countdown adds the final spike of adrenaline. Hurry! Those Oodles aren’t getting any fresher!

Do you agree? Do you have a favorite? And do you have any games you play where the sound has a big impact in how you play, or in how much you enjoy the game? Leave your responses below!

  1. I’ve finally managed to score the maximum oodles for each of the games and they are as follows: 80 in Horse Play, 75 in Basket Case, and 79 in The Cyclone

The Cyclone would be my favorite, now that I’ve trained my wrist to move fast enough (hehehe), if there were one more oodle in it to provide a full 80. I remember the first time I emptied the cyclone of all the oodles into the “chute” was my proudest moment of oodling. I was so happy! lol I would also say that this game is the only one I prioritize to play with the sound so that I CAN hear that final 10 second countdown.

  2. Well, Scoop, contrary to my fellow players above, I have to agree with you 100%! In fact, I was about to compliment you on your intuitiveness! I still believe the majority of folks would agree with your evaluation (and mine :)), in spite of the fact that there are always some exceptions to any rule. Therefore, please accept my congratulations on an insightful and outstanding review!
    Sincerely,
    Pam

  3. GSNScoop,
I agree with your ranking; Horseplay is definitely the easiest to win on and the Cyclone my least favorite. I dislike it so much, that i cringe when the wheel stops on that game.
It’s so hard to win a decent amount of Oodles on the Cyclone.
My wish is that they would get rid of it and come up with something better.

  4. I like the Cyclone the best, then horse play and last the baskets. I normally do pretty good on all the games, scoring almost perfect scores on all 3. Its a nice bonus to get a few extra oodles. I save the spins up and always keep a running total between 50 and 60 spins. You never know when its going to be a double oodle day.

PS… I always play games without sound too. Its too distracting hearing all the sound effects.

    • gingersnap,
Just in case you are unaware, the spins you’re saving up will only last a month and then bye-bye. I’d wish you good luck, but it sounds like you’ve already got all you need! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. My favorite and preference to land on aren’t always the same. I like Horse Play because I can get the most oodles (I also have horses so I enjoy this game a little more). Cyclone is a challenge, which I enjoy for that reason, but I certainly don’t rack up the oodles. Basket Case is in the middle, both in liking the game and scoring oodles. For sound it depends on my mood sometimes I mute the sound other times I have it on low. It tends to distract me if I am really trying to concentrate. So I guess I am torn between Cyclone and Basket Case for 2nd favorite, I like them both for different reasons.

One thing that has always bugged me a little, and I mentioned it when we had the boards up; is that each of the three Wonder Wheel games has the wrong description when you hover above it. Right now Basket Case- has the Cyclone’s game play description; Horse Play- has Cyclone’s game play description; and Cyclone- has Basket Case’s game play description. Horse Play’s description is nowhere to be found. It was different before, so some change has been made but it still isn’t correct, never could figure this out.

I do enjoy the games each day and getting the oodles.

    • Hello sdnels,
Boy, I’m glad you brought that up. I believe I haven’t been playing Horse Play correctly. All I do is follow that horsey and then hit the red indicator pointer after another horse gets in the way and finally disappears. Now, I’ve noticed a box that has four indicators pointing north, south, east and west. At first I thought you could use them with your keyboard to jump over into another lane, but nothing happened when I tried that approach. Will you or anyone for that matter, be a dear and explain how that game is SUPPOSED” to be played? I would be most grateful.
      Sincerely,
      Pam

      • Pam, use your arrow keys to move your horse. On the Horse Play page, right above where you choose “Play for Oodles” or “Warm Up” there’s a little graphic of the arrow keys to look for. They’re usually located on the right-hand side of your keyboard by your number pad. Or you can use the w,a,s,d letter keys on your keyboard. (w=forward, a=left, s=back, d=right). Play on warm up mode and practice. ๐Ÿ™‚

        • Many thanks, Brendy! I’ll certainly give it a go; and who knows, maybe I’ll get somewhere. ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope you’re having a pleasant weekend.
          Warm Regards,
          Pam

  6. Horse Play my least favorite …… love the sounds though
Cyclone and / or Basket no fav for me.
Do better (I think) with Baskets & like but hate to hear that dreaded Klunk when it doesn’t make it in, ha, ha, ha
Like the Whirlwind of Oodles just at my fingertip’s ! Tic, Tic, TIC ………. ! ! !

  7. You ever have the cRaZy basket one where they swoop down quick into the wrong baskets, or 2 at once, and they look bezerk? ๐Ÿ˜€ good thing it doesn’t happen often.

  8. I too agree 100% with scoop, I just wish I could get more than 60 on cyclone!!!!!! I’m just now getting use to using the sound on!

    • Hi Cynthia,
While I can certainly sympathize with your comments, the sound, I believe, is meant to get your adrenalin pumping which is in keeping for such a fast paced game. Personally, I hate fast paced and/or time based games. Give me slow and easy; I’m here to relax. ๐Ÿ™‚ Very nice to meet you, Cynthia. Best of Luck with your games!
      Sincerely,
      Pam

  9. Horseplay is my favorite, baskets is second, then cyclone is my least favorite. I like horseplay because I get more oodles than the other two games.

  10. I love these fun games too. Basket Case, Horse Play, Cyclone…in that order . The Cyclone IS sooo hard, if I get more than 8 it’s a good one. No sound .
Thanx for the fun games ! The more Oodles ~ the better ! ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. i rank horse play 1st, cyclone 2nd and finally basket case 3rd because those little balls have a mind of their own and they make me mad when they jump into another basket like the one that got away… i love the fact that we can bank the games for rainy days when we have more time to play them and/or run low on oodles. i miss playing double trouble for oodles… it’s not the same with tokens… i wish they would bring that back.

  12. My favorite in order: Horse Play, Cyclone, Basket Race. I play both with or w/o the sound depending on my mood. The one I really wish I could conquer is Straws. anyone have any advice?

    • Dear Funtimers,
      My advise: Forget it! ๐Ÿ™‚
Actually, I have difficulty with spatially related games even though I’m a whiz at organizing the Fridge. (smiles) Seriously, I wish I could be more helpful, but at least we’re communicating or at least attempting to. It’s difficult the way they have this place set up. Best of Luck to you!
      Regards,
      Pam

  13. I totally agree with the Scoopster. I like Horseplay the best because I get the most Odles on it, followed by the Basket case, and then the least favorite the Cyclone, which is just too hard and random for me. I’m getting better at Cyclone but it just too random for me. Like Pam, I didn’t know how to play the Horse game at first as I was trying to use my mouse to move the horse back and forth. I can consistently get 77 but never 80. I didn’t know you can use forward or backward! I just move from side to side. Maybe now that I know, I can get the max points by using all four directions! BTW, some folks may be limited by either the speed of their internet connection or their PC/Laptop itself. If you have a slower computer, your screen may temporarily freeze on you since this website uses a heavy dose of Adobe Flash Player, which takes up a lot of computing power and tends to slow down your browser. I’m just say’n….

  14. What is with our monkey. When I click on him I keep getting the message “This connection is untrusted” The message can not be read in its entirety, Does anyone know what this means?
