Oodletorial: How to Search

Hi, I wanted to take a moment and give you a tip for navigating around Player News. Have you ever read a post you wanted to find again?  It’s easy using the search feature in the upper right corner of the page:

ss1

Click on  the search box to activate (it turns a lighter shade of gray), and type a word in. All our posts are “tagged” with common search words, so the odds of being able to find what you’re looking for is good. For example, to find posts about the Token Monkey, try typing “monkey”:

ss2

Once you’ve typed a word in, press the “Enter” button on your keyboard. A search of “monkey” brings up 5 different posts, the most recent shown below, which narrows down what you’re looking for:

ss3

The search function doesn’t work if you’re looking for comments you’ve posted, but it’s a good tool for finding the initial post you commented on. If you recall commenting on an MVO post and would like to see who else has posted, try searching MVO:

ss4

It will bring up all the posts with MVO in the title or body. So go ahead and play with search. Try different words if what you’re looking for doesn’t show. Common search words are Oodles, Tokens, Promotion, Winners, Casino, Prizes, Slots, etc.

Happy Searching!

      • Thomas Lee, if you got the “d” word you’re almost done! In the upper right-hand corner of http://playernews.gsn.com/ is a gray rectangle box that has a magnifying glass icon and the word “search” in it in light gray.

Type the “d” word into that box and then hit the “enter” key on your keyboard. Two articles will come up. One will be the “Oodletorial: How to Search” but under it is a different one.

Click on the one below “Oodletorial: How to Search” since you already know that one has the directions you’re already following. Then look in the body of the second article for the actual promo code.

        • Never mind. Instructions weren’t all that clear. When I read the initial instructions, the part that said: “Hint – you want to read the other post that pops up.”…I expected a pop up window. Figured it out. Thanks.

        • I have typed in the “d” word and read the second article and I think I know the promo code but I am not sure where to enter the code?

          • Hi Barbara, enter the promo code on My GSN where it says “enter promo code” in the upper left-hand side of the page 🙂

        • I have done this several times and it takes me back to the same place. Cannot find the promo code. I need the oodles.

          • Vicki, if you’ve gotten to where you are searching for the “d’ word, I suspect you’re not clicking on the last article in the search window here. Scroll down in the search window, and CLICK on the title of the article below “Oodletorial: How to Search” to fully open it. The search window only shows a couple lines of it. Open it all the way, and then all will become clear and you will find your promo code. 🙂

    • My first time on players corner. That wasn’t too difficult, but I did have to read the ‘hunt’ directions a few times.Thank you for the scavenger hunt. I could use more oodles, so please play more of these games. Since I’m writing I’ll add this to my comment….please make winning tokens a little easier. When I play with my tokens, and that’s a few hundred thousand, I lose them very quickly. I’d hate to spend real money like I do tokens, I could go thru a million $$$ in an hour! Thanks to the team that works so hard.

      • I found Diamond Royale Slots to be the biggest pay outs for all the slot games gsn has going if your trying to make yokens.

    • I just received the info for the scavenger hunt and when I put the word in it rejects it. when is the “D” word valid until

      • seah0rse, sorry, I’m not sure what you mean by you received the information. It’s a scavenger hunt and you need to follow the clues to get the promo code. How far have you gotten? (the “D” word is not the code, it’s an instruction on how to find the code)

  1. GSNAngel, I do not know where to post this anymore since we don’t have a message board. I really hate to complain to you, but getting through to support for something like this rarely helps; I am getting really tired of the Google click ads telling me:
#1-MY PC is CRICTICAL and needs a security tool, #2 My PC is about to crash and needs new Drivers and #3 I have 2 or 3 Private Messages to View.

Why is GSN running these Google click ads??????? I am pretty sure the IT department can make some choices on the ads that run on this site. I used to have a website so I know what they are and how it works.

I know and understand that advertising on this site is important for revenue but these ads are to scare people to take some kind of action to click on the ad. They claim to be free tools for your computer, but do a scan and then you have to pay to get anything fixed they say is wrong. Some ads are coming up as not trustworthy and my anti-virus blocks them.

What is wrong with staying with ads like Starbucks, Cars, Jimmy Dean, T-Mobile, Subway, AcuVue and some of the other ads that are up? I have been seeing these scare ads for almost a month. I cringe when I log in, I am getting to the point I do not want to return to this site. Changing my settings does not get rid of the ads but does block the daily break and a few of the other things I enjoy.

I haven’t seen the monkey in at least as long as I have been seeing these scare ads from Google that my PC is about to crash, which I know isn’t true; I keep everything updated and have a great anti-virus program. I don’t want Google All in One Mail for messages or Omni-box can anything be done????

    • Hi sdnels, I’ll pass your post on to the ads team. Flashing ads, and ads like that are not supposed to appear, so they’ll look in to it. I have heard some people have had luck seeing the monkey again once they clear their browser caches. Give that a try.

      • I clear my cache, history and cookies regular. So I am not sure what happened to the monkey for me. I tried using Chrome as some suggested, but that didn’t work either. I’m just really tired of the; Fix your PC ads, View your 4 Private Messages etc. that are appearing non stop. Thank you so much for listening and trying to help out and get issues like this addressed for the players.

I don’t know what we would do without you. Thanks again for any help with this I can get.

          • Hi Deborah, you want to look for a clue to discover the promo code. Start by clicking here. A clue is hidden in this article. Follow the directions of this clue to lead you to your promo code. There will be one more step after finding the clue to collect it.

        • Dear sidnels, I kept seeing these adds that try to make you believe your computer is about to crash. I ignore them. Sunday night i got a call from someone who said they were with the computer control center, and asked if I had been getting this kind of message. i said no. but he claimed that my computer was sending them messages that i was using some wrong numbers and he wanted me to turn on my computer so he could fix it. I knew this was a ploy to get inside my computer so I told him no no no. and hung up. He never called back. Beware of calls like this. you here so much about hackers. they will do anything.

      • SPEAKING OF THESE “FLASHING ADS”… I HATE THAT WHEN I AM TRYING TO PLAY A GAME, ESPECIALLY THE GAMES LIKE BOOKWORM, WHERE YOU ARE TRYING TO WORK TO FIND AS MANY WORDS BEFORE THE TIME IS UP AND TO THE RIGHT OF THE GAME AREA THERE IS FLASHING THAT DISTRACTS ME. I WAS TEMPTED TO TAPE A PIECE OF PAPER OVER THE RIGHT SIDE, BUT THEN THAT IS DISTRACTING AS WELL. I WAS PLAYING WHEEL OF FORTUNE BINGO AND ONE AD OVER LAPPED THE SPINNING WHEEL UNTIL IT WAS ALMOST HALF WAY COVERED. I JUST SIGNED OUT OF THE GAME AND WENT BACK IN LOSING MY BUILT UP GAME BANK IN ORDER TO TRY TO RID THAT ANNOYANCE FROM THE SCREEN. THEY ARE ALSO FLASHING ADS AT THE TOP OF THE SCREEN AS WELL! ONE MAIN PROBLEM MORE THAN DISTRACTIONS IS I HAVE A HEALTH CONDITION THAT THESE FLASHING LIGHTS ACTUALLY GIVE ME A HEADACHE IF THEY BLINK CONSTANTLY. I KNOW OF SOME PEOPLE THAT HAVE SEIZURES THAT BRIGHT OR FLASHING LIGHTS CAN TRIGGER ONE IF IT IS SUCH A WAY THAT TRIGGERS THAT REACTION IN THE BRAIN. THANKFULLY I DO NOT HAVE THAT PROBLEM, BUT I HAVE AN AUTO IMMUNE DISORDER THAT IS WORSENED WITH FIBROMYALGIA AND SOME OF US HAVE PROBLEMS WITH FLICKERING SHADOWS LIKE YOU SEE ON A SUNNY DAY DRIVING DOWN A ROAD WITH A LOT OF TREES WHERE THE SUNLIGHT FILTERING THROUGH THE LEAVES MAKING THE FLICKERING EFFECT CAN CAUSE NAUSEA AND DIZZINESS. CEILING FANS TURNING WITH THE LIGHT FIXTURE OVER HEAD AND TRYING TO READ CAN BE BAD. LIKE IT FORMS THE SAME FEELING AS THE FAN TURNS CASTS SHADOWING EFFECT OVER THE PAGE YOU ARE READING, CAN CAUSE HEADACHES AND DIZZINESS. JUST THINK OF HOW IT IS WITH NOT ONLY FLASHING BUT VIBRATING IN AND OUT TO CATCH ATTENTION TO IT ESPECIALLY IN THE PERIPHERAL VISION. I HAVE EYE PROBLEMS IS WHY I TYPE UPPER CASE. I AM NOT SCREAMING, BUT THIS HAS TO BE FIXED. SOME ADS ARE SO CLOSE TO THE GAMING AREA THAT I HAVE ACCIDENTALLY CLICKED ON THE AD IN JUST NORMAL MOVEMENT AND HAD TO GO BACK TO PREVIOUS SCREEN IF I CAN NOT RETURN BY CLICKING THE TAB IT FORMED. SOME OF THE ADS SAYING YOU ARE OUR ONE MILLION PERSON TODAY AND YOU HAVE WON… I PHONE, OR WALMART CARD, ETC. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR LISTENING TO OUR CONCERNS. THIS IS WHAT KEEPS ME COMING BACK TO GSN! JUST STOP THIS KIND OF ADS AND THINGS WOULD BE MORE FUN! 🙂

    • sdnels, I had the same problem and google had a virus in my computer, I clicked on the help link and let them have it. I have had 2 viruses in gsn and I know they came from here because it is the only place I go on the internet. So you see why I know they came from here. google ads are horrendous for viruses. I CAN’T STAND THEM. I HAD TO HAVE THE 2 VIRUSES REMOVED FROM MY PC AND IT WASN’T CHEAP.

      • Hi Nicolas–
A couple of points of advice. First, get yourself a virus protection program loaded on your computer. There are a number of very good ones that are available for free.
Second, there is a program called malwarebytes (www.malwarebytes.com) that is also available for download for free. (They also have a more advanced paid version, but the free one covers most people’s needs.) It will search for and delete any malware (which is similar to a virus, but is different) from your system. It will then routinely screen incoming sites for potential threats plus regularly check your system and quarantine anything suspicious it finds. You have the final say about resolution of anything quarantined. I use my computer for both work and personal, so you can imagine the aggravation I went through went I inadvertently downloaded malware hidden in something I was downloading. I was forced to restore my computer to an earlier setting prior to the download date. (Fortunately, I only had to go back 2 days, so I didn’t lose any important updates.) Anyway, give things a try and good luck! 🙂

        Betty

    • “Ready to start? Look for the first clue HERE.” Click the link. A clue for what you need to do next is hidden in the post. It’s educational too, because the post explains how to search things on Player News.

  2. I’m lost with this hunt. I do not do posting type of stuff. I found the search word and the secret word but where to go after that. I don’t get it.

    • oliver462003, if you found the promo code (the word all in capitol letters), redeem it on MY GSN by either copying and pasting it, or typing it into the “promo code” field.

    • Hi Alfred, you want to look for a clue to discover the promo code. Start by clicking here. A clue is hidden in this article. Follow the directions of this clue to lead you to your promo code.

  3. I do not know where to find the search button to find the promo code. Angel, could you please help me? I am an old woman and do not catch on to these things easily. Thank you.

      • Barbara, go to http://playernews.gsn.com/ and look in the upper right-hand corner at the top of the page. There should be a dark gray rectangle box exactly like the screenshots in this article. It has a magnifying glass glass with the word search in lighter gray. If you’re not seeing it, can you please tell me what browser or device you are using?

  4. OMG. Now I feel even stupider. Of course it’s there. I just wasn’t looking high enough on the screen. I never looked above the orange bar that has all the places to click on. Thanks for your help – I already went and picked up my 1000 oodles. Lots of fun. Thanks again.

      • I GO THROUGH EVERY STEP I AM GIVEN TO DO AND I STILL CANT FIGURE IT OUT,I AM ABOUT TO QUIT ON IT CAUSE ITS MADDING

        • Hi Mary, when searching the “D” word, be sure you’re clicking on the title of the last article in this search box. Otherwise you are only seeing the first couple of lines. Once you have the whole article open, you can easily find the promo code.

    • Jaime, the promo code is in all caps. If you’re trying to enter the “d” word, that’s not the promo code.

Leesis, in the upper right-hand corner of http://playernews.gsn.com/ is a gray rectangle box that has a magnifying glass icon and the word “search” in it in light gray.

  5. I am not getting the oodle scavanger hunt, did the “d” word looked through the posts and can’t see anything for a clue,

  6. entered the “d” word and was sent back to instruction page ,read the posts and still nothing! must be too old or stupid to do this! getting very frustrated!!!!

    • wauzeka61, when you search for the “d” word please note TWO pages come up. Don’t pick the “Oodletorial: How to Search” article since you already know that’s where instructions are. Pick the one below it. 🙂

    • VELVET1, in the upper right-hand corner of http://playernews.gsn.com/ is a gray rectangle box that has a magnifying glass icon and the word “search” in it in light gray.

  7. This time when I entered the promo code it said successful code. But I am wondering why I was getting the message invalid code the first few times I typed it in. Any explanation will be appreciated.

    Thanks

    • Congratulations clmania! If you were typing it out you may have inadvertently typoed. If you copied and pasted, sometimes you can accidentally grab an extra blank “space” before or after the word that would make it look like something else was added on.

    • Robert I have complete faith in your ability to get this! You want to look for a clue to discover the promo code. Start by clicking here. A clue is hidden in this article (not the comments by other people). Follow the directions of the clue to lead you to your promo code. There will be one more step after finding the clue to collect it.

  8. I just can’t get the box to open once I put in the “M” word in. It just won’t open. I’ve clicked it about 50 times. It is light when I type in the word, gets dark, then I keep clicking the enter thing and nothing happens. I’ve tried it in all caps and then lower case and still nothing.

        • Nhanb, on the page that pops up, click on the second article to view it in full, that’s where you’ll find the promo code! (the second article references player services). But you must click on it to open it. On the page that pops up you only get a line or two.

  9. Oh yes, I am an idiot – bring on more of the same – I finally, after four hours – figured it out – oh my, this was like pulling hair out of my head – great job GSN!!!!

    • I’m so sorry Karen. I regret being the reason for sudden baldness onset *teasing* But in all seriousness, so glad you got it! it’s a new game we thought would be fun to try so there’s definitely a learning curve for players, and myself when creating clear directions/clues. Thank you for your patience!

  10. I guess I Am an idiot! Can I get to this screen on my I-Phone? Because I don’t have a pc will it still work???

    • Lissa3158, sorry not sure how well it works on an iphone. Here’s a good hint: when you search for the “D” word, look at the search page (I’ve linked that screen so click it), and then click on the last article in the search screen. You may need to scroll down a little to see it. It’s another Oodletorial under “Oodletorial: How to Search”. Click on it to fully open it, as only a couple lines show in the search pages. Once you open the actual article, you will be able to clearly see the promo code!

  11. Reading the posts in this thread from start to finish was very entertaining… brought a smile to my face. I had mentioned in another thread that even with an old PC that hates streaming smooth video, I found the promo code quite easily by following GSN Angel’s instructions to the “t”. The 1,000 oodles make up for me getting an easter egg that turned rotten… Thank you.

  12. OMG. I am too numb to figure out how this hunt works. I put the d word in the search and search instructions keep coming up. what am I doing wrong?

    • Dianne, if you’ve gotten to where you are searching for the “d’ word, I suspect you’re not clicking on the last article in the search window here. Scroll down in the search window, and CLICK on the title of the article below “Oodletorial: How to Search” to fully open it. The search window only shows a couple lines of it. Open it all the way, and then all will become clear and you will find your promo code. 🙂
